is there a cheaper way to upgrade the GPS software on my Lexus 2001 suv?
It has Map Database Version 2000 ver. 1 the dealer charges $275 plus for the upgrade that's why i wanna know if there's a way around this. the suv was a gift from a dear friend who wants to get rid of it.

- Take it to your Lexus dealer- they should be able to do it, but they'll charge you. EDIT: No I don't think there is a cheaper way- generally the in-dash GPS systems are proprietary and you can't do it yourself. Sorry.
- Well you can afford the payments on that vehicle that will be small change for you. Why Nickel and Dime your fancy vehicle, right? Or you are looking for a bootleg copy?
- Yes there is. Go to a car accessory shop (not a body shop) tell them the make of your car and the type of gps system you have and what upgrade you want, such as the 2007 version. They'll show you the makes of the gps systems or upgrades they have and then you just choose. The gps are from $300 to $500. If you want the traffic updates, its an additional $20 to about $40 a month. Upgrades are about $150 to the price the dealer is giving you.
