Does Garmin Nuvi GPS systems work without a power cord plugged in?

I'm interered in purchasing a GPS system which I can change inside my home and now have cords in my car while driving :)

1. Yes, it's just a charger. I have 3 of the same chargers, for my car, for the outlet, and usb. Yay for universal usb camera and phone cables. For brief outings it works perfect. Has several hours of a battery life.But you still want to charge it frequently. charging it with 3/4 battery life 100 times is less strain on the battery then charging it 20 times from a dead battery.
